Vernon Mayor Gets Olympic Tickets
Should politicians be accepting free Olympic tickets?
Vernon Mayor Wayne Lippert and his wife will attend a hockey game between Germany and Sweden thanks to the BC Lottery Corporation. Lippert told a Kamloops news paper it's a mater of timing because the game is the night before Vernon hosts a promotional event. He expects "there may be some flack because there are people against the Olympics, period."
He isn't alone, the Mayors of Kamloops, Langley, and Burnaby will also go to a hockey game. Other mayors believe its breaking the community charter rules and have said, no thanks!
Kelowna Mayor Sharon Shepherd has already rejected any free tickets and Chilliwack's mayor also turned down a gift, saying it may be illegal under provincial legislation.
