Council
Vernon council is expected to give 1st and 2nd reading to a draft 2010 city budget Monday. The numbers are also expected to lead to a two percent increase in property taxes. Mayor Wayne Lippert has stressed that half of the proposed tax hike will go towards fixing aging infrastructure like sewers and sidewalks. Council is also expected to approve dates for two town hall meetings to review the budget and proposed capital projects.
And...Councillor Bob Spiers plans to raise safety concerns over the intersection at 23rd Street and 24th Avenue after last week's spectacular accident when a stolen truck was embedded into the side of a home. According to a note from one neighbour, there have been four serious collisions there, including one involving fatalities.
