Hundreds affected by Kelowna computer virus

1/11/2013

Hundreds of Kelowna residents have had their computers invaded by a virus we first reported on yesterday.

Kelowna RCMP say they've received at least 250 complaints and counting.

The virus causes a computer to freeze unless the victim pays $100.00 to unlock it.

It also includes a pop-up that in some cases features the victim's photo and claims to be coming from the police or the Canadian government.

Affected users are warned to not pay any out any money and take the proper steps to remove the virus from their computer.

Computer shops in Kelowna report a brisk trade in virus removal.
